7. Technology integration into the curriculum is when a teacher or student uses technology as a tool to enhance their learning or class work. When a teacher uses technology appropriately they can make their teaching much more fun, interesting, and it will enhance the students learning. Teachers have a responsibility to use it for the bettering of their students. Students really like to use technology when they are in the classroom and they must be able to follow instruction well, so that the students stay safe. Students enjoy technology because it is interactive and teachers can keep students interested by adding some sort of technology into the curriculum by using; videos, MS word, MS power point, MS publisher, united streaming videos, online games, etc.
8. In this class I have learned so many different tools to enhance my classroom. First off I have a better idea of how to use power point presentations as a tool for students to use. I always thought of power point as a tool for teacher presentation only. I also learned how to use publisher effectively and as a great tool for students to use. I learned all about wikis which I did not know existed. I now have a great way to make a class web site or a place to have students go online to find information. I have also learned so many great ideas for using technology in the classroom. This class was a great help and all pre-service and in service teachers need this class!
9. I think the most difficult part of this class is making up the unit template and coming up with all the ideas without any kind of teachers manual.
10. In the future I plan to use technology in my classroom through a variety of different means. I am sure I will use PowerPoint Presentations, but I plan to have students more involved in the process and not just the teacher standing in the front of the class talking. I will also make good use of ms publisher to publish the student’s work to have students incorporating technology into their writing. Over all I plan to make the use of technology a regular and beneficial part of my students learning process on a daily bases. Since students respond well and enjoy technology it would be a disservice to not have it incorporated into their education.
7. Technology integration is when the teacher uses computers, internet, smart boards and computer software in the learning process for the student. Students view using computers as a fun tool and all along the student is learning 21st century skills that will provide years of enjoyment in the life as a student, employee and adult.
8. I learned that technology is not to be feared. Using technology in the classroom will not only help the student but me as a teacher. I am so excited to know that students will enjoy learning using technology. I am also excited to have learned that there’s an enormous amount of tools to be used not only for students but for me as a teacher. These tools will make my job so much easier. Online tools like, graphic organizers, fun games, internet research, blogs and wikis. Software like, PowerPoint, Publisher and MS word. Will enhance my job as a teacher.
9. The most challenging would be the Unit Plan. Being the curriculum designer of the Unit Plan and coming up with ways to get students to attain a higher thinking order was a challenge.
10. I envision using technology in my classroom with centers, PowerPoint for both me and the students. Blogs, wikis, smartboard, and safe internet sites. Technology and learning will come together to help students with any subject I teach. Let the fun of learning begin!
7. Technology Intergration is the mixing of instructional teaching or lecture with the aid of computers and software to evoke interest of student that they may want to learn. The use of computers and software such as power point presentation that students have created, class blogs where students post their feedback and teacher can see their level of understanding of each lesson presented, the use of wikis where student can access instructions to do projects assigned, and the list goes on.
8. What I have learned in EDU 230 is the use of technology such as the power point presentation as a student tool for learning which I didn't know could be used as such, the making of a wiki that as a student I thoroughly enjoy and I know my student will enjoy. The use of wikis, templates, and other structured projects for student help students to be creative, brainstorm ideas that they thought they never had, and it helps them to communicate with other classmates and the teacher. Also, I learned that technology keep students interested and not get bored with learning because its learning that's fun and learning they will use in life.
9. The greatest challenge in EDU 230 is the Unit Template because it questions you as if you're already a teacher without enough briefing. It's not easy to find what you need on the Curriculum
CD.
10. I envision using technology in my classroom by using as much as is available, MS software such as power-point presentations, publisher, and wikis created by my students, class blogs so that I can communitcate with the students and parents beyond class time, smartboard if available for class discussions and presentations, and graphic organizers to assess student learning.
7. Technology integration is the usage of computers, internet, smartboards, digital cameras, and other computer software by a teacher to target higher-order thinking skills and 21st Century Skills within his/her classroom students. The usage of technology enhances teaching by making it more enjoyable rather than using paper and pencil. Students are intrigued by technology, therefore, keeping their attention longer. Interactive technology seems like play rather than learning so I would definitely incorporate this type of learning frequently.
8. In EDU 230, I learned so much about technology. I am still a little uneasy about using more advanced computer software, but as time goes on I'm sure I will become more comfortable using it. In this class, I enjoyed doing my first power-point presentation, a newsletter, and making and answering blogs and wikis. All of the teachers that I work with didn't even know what a wiki was.
I am glad that I took this course and I know that the Intel Teach Program is very helpful tool for me now and will be in the future.
Question #7
Technology integration is when you incorporate technology into something. In this situation technology integration would be when we include technology, such as power point, computers, eiki machines, etc. into our curriculum to help our students.
Question #8
I learned that technology is extremely beneficial in educating our students. By including technology into our classrooms, we are able to teach our students in ways that they otherwise would not have had the opportunity, such as showing them a power point and allowing them to ‘see’ the lesson as we teach it. Technology helps us move away from ‘stand and deliver’ lecturing, and move towards active lessons where our students can participate actively instead of listening passively. I also learned about blogs and wiki’s and how to create them for use in the classrooms.
Question #9
The power point presentation was the most difficult assignment for me. I had to be conscious not only about the information that I put in the presentation, but also how I put the information in. I had to make sure that my information was pertinent, interesting, and relevant, while ensuring that it was positioned in a way so that it was not overcrowding, overbearing, or illegible.
Question #10
I plan on using blogs and wikis in my classroom once I start teaching. When I first saw this in class I was amazed that there was a way to incorporate something that students loved to do (chatting on the internet with friends and posting comments) with something educational. I will be setting up a blog site for each of my classes (if I teach high school).
9. The chalk and wire program to make my portfolio seems to be the most difficult for me because I have taken a year and a half worth of classes that I will now need to take from a "paper" portfolio and put it into my electronic portfolio, therefore, making this my most challenging assignment.
10. I envision myself using technology in my future classroom by definitely having and utilizing a smartboard! I would use lots of interactive games from the internet. These types of games are so educational and fun at the same time. I enjoyed making my power-point project so much that I will incorporate that in the classroom too.
Question #7
Technology integration is combing technology along with the daily lesson plans in the classroom. There are so many beneficial resources when it comes to technology and I believe that integrating these resources into the classroom will give students great hands-on experiences. Students are able retain information for a much greater length of time if the information is presented to them in a unique way. Using technology to present the information, in a power point presentation for example, is a great way to present both text information and graphics to the students. I plan on integrating technology into my classroom because I want my students to have the best learning experiences that I can give them. I feel like integrating technology in my classroom will help me achieve this.
Question #8
In EDU 230, I learned many useful facts about technology that are going to help me when I get into the classroom. While working on my student sample power point presentation, I learned how to link the pictures that I put in my presentation to a web site. I think that this is a great tool for teachers to use when making a power point presentation. Linking graphics to educational websites throughout the presentation will allow the teacher to share even more information than what is already in the presentation. EDU 230 also taught me how to use Microsoft publisher. I have never worked with the software program until this semester and I found this to be a very useful resource. I plan on making classroom newsletters to send home to my students’ parents and I will be able to make these in publisher. This class has really opened my eyes to many tips and tools that technology has to offer a classroom teacher.
Question #9
The assignment that has given me the greatest challenge in EDU 230 is the Unit Plan Template. I am very intimidated when it comes to lesson plans as this is my first semester at Florida Southern and my first semester of classes that actually pertain to the education field. I have never had to come up with my own set of plans and brainstorm activities that are educational, comply with the Sunshine State Standards, and also grab students’ attention. The Unit Plan Template has become the greatest challenge for me in this class, but I feel as though I have worked hard to complete this task and overcome this challenge.
Question #10
In my future classroom, I see technology being used daily. I hope to be at a school that allows me to have at least 2 student computers in my classroom so that I can set up a learning center around the computers. I want my students to be able to use their creative writing skills to write their own short stories and use computers to publish the stories so that they may share their stories with their classmates and also have copies of the stories to keep with them forever. I also mentioned in the previous questions that I plan on having a class website that the students and their parents will be able to access from home. I think that this will be a great communication tool. I also mentioned that I plan on sending home class newsletters so that I may keep the parents updated on what is going on in the classroom. This will be useful for parents that may not have internet access at their homes. I also plan on using technology in my future classroom by using power point presentations to present my students with information about new topics that we will be studying. At the beginning of each unit, I will create an informational power point presentation that, hopefully, will get the students excited about the subject that we will be studying. If I am lucky enough to teach at a school that has smart boards in the classroom, I will definitely use my smart board every day in my lessons. This class has taught me many valuable lessons on how to use technology in the classroom and I plan on taking these lessons with me and implementing technology in my future classroom.
Question #7
Technology integration is when teachers use technology in their classroom to present information to their students. Using technology, whether it is a PowerPoint presentation that you are using in your instruction or one that your students are creating for a project, has so many benefits to students. When students use technology, it makes their learning more fun and interesting to them. In my experience in the classroom, students are eager to work on technology-based assignments. When the teacher uses some sort of technology during instruction, it can provide a wonderful visual for students when learning something new or for children who are visual learners. I intend to use technology in my classroom as a way to get my students engaged in their learning and to incorporate hands-on activities.
Question #8
I learned a great deal in EDU 230 that will be beneficial to me not only as a teacher but also in general. I have experienced with PowerPoint previously, but this class was my first PowerPoint presentation and I had never used Publisher before. I learned how to make a wiki and blog, I never even knew what they were before this class, and how to respond to blogs. I can take the information learned in this class and have so many great projects for my students to enjoy. The most beneficial thing I have learned while in this class is preparing my e-portfolio as I had no idea how to do this and need to be working on it now. I look forward to integrating technology into my classroom when I become a teacher.
Question #9
The greatest challenge for me in this course has been preparing my e-portfolio. Although I definitely had some obstacles to overcome with the other programs, this one has the most impact on me for the immediate future as we are now moving in that direction. I am grateful that I am in this class now and able to get some help to overcome this challenge.
Question #10
I envision using PowerPoint presentations in my future classroom as I did while performing my technology lesson in a Kindergarten class. It was fun both for me while presenting the information to them and for them to be able to see realistic pictures while I was talking to them. I plan on using Publisher to send home weekly newsletters to parents so that they will always be aware of what exactly we are working on in the classroom. I also plan on having my students perform projects using various software programs and to incorporate computers as part of their learning centers, where they can work on educational games and have fun while they are learning.
Question #7:
Technology integration is the means by which the teacher interweaves technology and content. The integration of technology in the classroom allows students to gain new information in fun, exciting, and untraditional ways. For students, the integration of technology in the classroom allows them the “break the mold.” In essence, technology integration gives students the opportunity to take their education to the next level. Not only can they be creative, but they can also grab the “meat” of the subject’s content. This type of learning experience is bound to prove academically beneficial for both the student and teacher.
Question #8:
While in EDU 230, I learned that technology is just not the power button on a computer. On the contrary, technology is an “on-your-level” way in which students can learn what the teacher teaches them in class. In the same way, technology is not only a teacher modeled experience, but it is a student modeled experience as well. In other words, technology provides students hands-on opportunities to make their learning experiences come alive. This can be accomplished through PowerPoint, Publisher, and many others alike.
Question #9:
For me, the most difficult assignment in EDU 230 was the Unit Template. While completing this task, I had to design everything from scratch and really use my “thinking cap.” On the other hand, it gave me an idea of what would be expected of me once I am in my own classroom.
Question #10:
As a future teacher, I am amazed by the invaluableness of technology. When completing projects such as PowerPoint, Publications, Blogs, and others alike, students are introduced to an untraditional, yet fun way of learning. For this reason, I envision making technology a part of my students’ learning experiences a top priority. Not only would technology be used during Computer Lab time, but it would be integrated into classroom time as well, especially in centers. By doing so, I can ensure that my students are offered more opportunities to learn what the world of technology has to offer. In addition, allotting time for my students to explore technology in the classroom allows them to use their imaginations; consequently, opening the door to the impossible. It’s simple – my students will be able to use technology and content that they’ve learned in class to expand their creative and innovative minds.
#7
Technology integration is when teachers and student use technological tools to enhance learning in the classroom. These technologies include computers, smart boards, video recorders, leapfrogs, etc. By using these tools, teachers are able to target the higher-order thinking skills and 21st Century skills that are essential in the classroom today.
#8
It is difficult for me to express what I have learned fro this course, mainly because the amount of information I have gain is immense. My favorite thing I learned from this course is how effective a class blog can be. Never had I even considered using blogs in a classroom setting, mainly because none of my teachers have ever utilized them. I think they are a great way to have children respond with reflections. It gives them the opportunity to express themselves in a different setting, where as most students shy away from speaking aloud in class.
#9
My most difficult challenge has been the Unit Plan Template. No because it’s difficult, but because I tend to procrastinate. Most of the other assignments I feel were more fun, like the PowerPoint. I got to play with color and graphics, which I enjoy more than having to organize a unit. But, I do feel that the unit plan template is very helpful. It is effective in organizing and summarizing the main points of my unit.
#10
I plan to use technology on a daily bases in my future classroom. Technology is important in today’s world, and will continue to be improved upon, and continue to be essential in the lives of our future generations. It is so important for children to learn how to use various technologies, and understand why it is important to use them. I see my students participating in a class blog, creating newsletters to inform their families about our class, learning centers on the smart board, and interactive software for a type of one on one instruction that a teacher is not always able to give.
#7
Technology integration to me is when a teacher uses any form of technology in his/her classroom; technology hardware such as computers, digital cameras, scanners and smart boards. Computer software such as Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Excel. Other types are blogs and wiki’s for students to respond to teacher directed questions regarding any given topic.
#8
I knew a lot on how to integrate technology into the classroom as that was my job for four years at an elementary school in Michigan. But I was not aware of blog’s and wiki’s and I think they are a valuable tool to get each and every student involved in each project. They are a great and easy way for a student to communicate their feelings to their teacher. Blog’s and wiki’s can be student and/or teacher directed.
#9
I believe the unit plant was my greatest challenge for this class. It really made each of us think “outside the box” so to speak…to take over and be the curriculum designer. I’m sure that was new to each of us as future teachers.
#10
I envision myself using technology with my students throughout the day in my classroom. I believe using technology is a great way to make learning fun and exciting. Students will be able to use the internet to conduct research and web quests. My students will be able to display their work using PowerPoint and Publisher. There are so many ways that I as a future can integrate and facilitate technology into my classroom and I cannot wait to use all the different technologies that will be at my fingertips with my students!
7. What is technology integration?
I consider technology integration to be incorporating anything with technology into your lesson plans - not simply as a time filler, but as a worthwhile addition to the educational process. Incorporating things like computers, digital cameras, smartboards, processing and publishing software, blogs and wikis can all be wonderful additions. Students get excited and motivated when these things are used so it is important for teachers to continue to integrate technology.
8. What did you learn about technology in EDU 230 and/or recent field experience?
The most exciting things I learned about were the blogs and wikis. These are things that were introduced at out teacher conference, but seemed over my head at the time. Now I’m excited about incorporating these. I think the students will like the interaction with these and parents can easily view some of the thinking and learning processes that are going on. I spent a lot, a whole lot, of time on the powerpoint project but I was bound and determined to get a few things figured out. I love to use a powerpoint presentation when I’m teaching. The kids seem to stay more focused and so now the extra time I took had me learning new tricks of the trade.
9. What assignment or event would you consider as your greatest challenge in EDU 230?
My greatest challenge was the Unit Plan. Everything we did along the way helped me with parts of that, but it was still a lot to pull together. I wanted to make sure I had good teachable, accomplishable plans and had thought of everything. Even though it was the greatest challenge, it will end up being the most rewarding. This plan is ready to go and will be utilized almost exactly with my classes after the holiday break. This is seven weeks of planned, consistent lessons and will flow nicely into the next unit on composers. My principals, with this unit plan, will see a big jump in the professionalism of the lesson plans I turn in to them. I will continue this level and have a goal of breaking this plan down even more to not be 3-5 grades, but modified for specifics with each grade level. That way as students progress with me each year, the lessons also progress for them and become more in depth. Students that are with me from K-5 will have continuity and build on prior knowledge from year to year.
10. How do you envision using technology in your future classroom?
I will continue to use and incorporate more technology in my classroom. I do use pretty much now, but envision the students doing more creating with the technology themselves. Most of the technology I use now, I create or they just have to interact with. The students developing projects themselves and teaching each other about different sections of the unit I think will stick with them a lot longer and be rewarding for both of us.
7. Technology integration is about using technology to enhance you instruction. When starting this class I felt technology was something you added to a lesson, but I have learned that technology sould be a tool to enhance or reinforce the instruction. We take technology for granted, but the truth is it is available and we should be using it on a daily basis. We a far to text book oriented as teachers because it is easy, but we need to learn to teach away from the book and use these resources that are readily available to us. Teaching with technology provides hands-on, visual experiences to make learning fun and useful to the students. Bottom line, I plan to use these tools in my classroom to enhance my instruction.
8. This class has taught me so much about the tools and resources that are readily available to me. I came to this class pretty naive and intimidated about technology, but I am walking away with so much. I have learned to use power-point, create blogs and wikis, make forms and brochures, and so much more. I am so excited to enter the clssroom with so many resources and new knowledge to use with my students.
9. I think the greates challenge in this class for me had to be the blogs and wikis. I hadn't really ever heard of these things let alone used them. I was very intimidated on how to create them and use them. Through this class I have gained confidence in these programs and feel I will be able to use them in my classroom.
10. I hope to be able to incorporate power-points, blogs, wikis, and email in my classroom. I hope to be so lucky that I will have the opportunity to use a smartboard in my classroom. With the resources and knowledge from this class I will be able to use technology on a daily basis in my classroom.
#7 What is technology integration?
I would define technology integration as incorporating, or including, technology in whatever it is you may be doing ( in this case, teaching in a classroom). It is a way to cover the subject matter in an innovative, interesting way, and it kills two birds with one stone: you are teaching students the particular subject and you’re teaching them how technology can be useful in various ways.
#8 What did you learn about technology in EDU 230 and/or recent field experience?
I learned how to do a variety of projects that I had either not been familiar with at all, or had not had much experience with. I learned how I can use technology in different classroom settings, whether it be in a music class or in an English or history class. The main thing that I learned is the degree to which technology can be effective when teaching a class. It had never really occurred to me before taking this class just how much technology can enhance whatever it is you may be teaching.
#9 What assignment or event would you consider as your greatest challenge in EDU 230?
The most difficult assignment for me was the movie maker file. It took a long time to figure out how to create, add, and play the narration, and it took just as long to figure out how to create and add music properly. All of that, however, pales in comparison to how long it took to split the music files and coordinate them with the narration, without covering up my voice or having either one go out of sync. And to top it all off, it was nearly impossible to figure out how to get my movie maker to play on a computer other than my own. I never realized that using an updated version would actually work against me.
#10 How do you envision using technology in your future classroom?
When I teach music, I am going to use PowerPoints to illustrate some of the different instruments and their uses, and to make learning about the instruments interactive for the students. I will have the students create their own movie about how music is important in their lives and the lives of others, and may even have my students create a blog about something related to what I am teaching.
7. Technology integration is when a teacher uses technology to get their subject across to their students. In the end, the student is not only learning that subject area in a fun and exciting way, but they are also learning how to use and create things in technology.
8. I have learned how entertaining and annoying that technology can be. I think technology is the easiest way for a child to learn something because it is entertainint for them, but technology can be a pain because it has a mind of its own.
9. The movie maker project was the most difficult for me because it did not open in class when I had to present it. I worked on that project for a week to see it come crashing down in class when I couldng get it open.
10. I do envision using technology in my class because it I believe that my students would get a lot out of it musically as well as being able to think critically so that they can work out problems that they face.
#7. Technology integration is the use of any form of technology in the classroom. It can be used by either the teacher or the students in order to enhance learning and educational performance. Technology is an essential tool that allows students to feel more engaged. By integrating things such as blogs, wikis, graphic organizers, PowerPoint, and SmartBoard, students may become more interested in the subject. If a teacher integrates technology into the classroom they are helping their students learn important skills that they will need later in life. As society advances so must the 21st century classrooms. One way to accomplish this is through technology integration.
#8. In EDU 230 I learned different ways to integrate technology into my future classroom. I learned how to use various programs in order to enhance my teaching. I gained a better understanding of programs such as Moviemaker and PowerPoint. I learned that sometimes these presentations require a lot of time in order to construct, but the more you use the program the more familiar you become with it. I also learned that technology can be very frustrating at times, but in the end the use of this tool is rewarding to the students and the teacher.
#9. The assignment that was the greatest challenge for me was the digital storyboard. I thought this project was very time-consuming. I had difficulties incorporating my narrations and music. It was very tricky to get both of the sound files to overlap one another. Another problem was saving the presentation to a CD, because different computers have different versions of Moviemaker and the different versions are not always compatible with one another.
# 10. In my future classroom I will try to use PowerPoint, Smartboard, and Moviemaker presentations. I believe these programs can hold a student’s attention for a greater length of time and encourages them to become more involved. I will also try to incorporate things such as the graphic organizer and student publications. I believe these assignments promote a higher level of thinking and they allow students to express their creativity. I think it is also a great idea to have a classroom blog. This allows the students and teacher to effectively communicate with one another and share ideas with the class.
7)Technology integration is when you use technology such as computers, projectors and other devices to enhance your learning curriculum so that the students have a somewhat easier way to learn. Ways of doing this are picking a topic that you would talk about in class such as “Intonation” for band and playing a small video clip talking about sound waves. That way you not only integrate music but science as well.
8)I learned about how different programs such as Movie Maker and Powerpoint can help me to teach my future students. I learned how important it is to be somewhat computer savvy and that it is good to have a larger lesson plan that I now know how to develop through the Unit Plan Template
9)I found the Movie Maker to be my greatest challenge. I wanted to do something different with it but it didn’t really work out the way I had planned. I don’t really care to hear the sound of my own voice so that was difficult to get through as well. Part of my problem was the timing of the project as well along with the fact that I had never even looked at Movie Maker before beginning that project.
10)I learned a lot of great things in EDU 230 and I think that I will try to make time to use some of the technology that is provided for me. I guess I really say technology as just something for the Core teachers and not really for myself as a music educator, but I now think it is very important for me to use what resources I have available to me because it isn’t about me, it is about the students.
7. Technology integration is using technology in an environment. In teaching, technology integration would be incorporating technology into the classroom. For example, using powerpoint, microsoft movie maker, or any other form of technology in a classroom would classify as technology integration.
8. I learned how to make a brochure or a newsletter in EDU 230. Also, I learned how to hyperlink in powerpoint. I learned how to use Microsoft Movie Maker. In addition, I learned how to respond to blogs and create my own.
9. I considered the digital storyboard using Microsoft Movie Maker as my greatest challenge in EDU 230. Every time I inserted a new picture, audio, or transition everything moved to where I did not want it in the movie. Even retrieving audio that would play in Microsoft Movie Maker was extremely frustrating. I went to several sites and spent hours downloading sound files, just to find out that none of them would play in Microsoft Movie Maker. Also, narrating the slide show took a while.
10. I envision using technology in my future classroom. In my classroom I will use power point to teach third graders the basics of music. I will show them different instruments, grouped into families, in which they will be playing. On the slides, I will also have the proper playing position, and how to make a characteristic tone on their instrument. For each instrument, I could have sound and video clips of how the instrument is supposed to sound when played properly.
Furthermore, using a graphic organizer I would quiz my students on how the instruments of an orchestra are divided into various families, such as woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings. I would have one instrument family name in each bubble, and the students would be asked to list at least three instruments in each family.
In addition, I would send reminder e-mails to my students to help them remember when assignments are due. Also, once a week I would have the students answer a blog question that I would post to help get them thinking about the different musical elements that either we would be studying or reminding them of previous elements that we had already studied in preparation for a test.
7. In my opinion, Technology integration is that when a classroom takes advantage of technology as a tool and supplement to the course. It's the bringing forth of opportunities in the contemporary age such that students can learn using techniques and technology that they would be using in the world outside of the classroom. In other words, it integrates the modern utilities of technology from the modern world into the classroom learning atmosphere.
8. One of the more basic things I've learned in the EDU 230 course was extra information about the certain programs we used in class. There were certain actions the programs could perform that I never knew before. An example would be the internal linking of different slides in Power Point. Another aspect I learned was of the electronic portfolio. I never knew that type of program was available.
9. The unit template is definitely the greatest challenge for me in this EDU 230 course. Having to plan out day by day, assignment by assignment for the entire duration of the course that will be given is very difficult. The biggest challenge is trying to look at it realistically as it is impossible for a schedule to be followed to a "T".
10. (Copy and Paste of the "Reflections on Technology in Education" Assignment) As much as I personally do not want to admit it, technology has such a heavy and lasting impact upon the daily lives of those in today’s society that it would be ineffective to not utilize it in something as vital as education. Before I explain further why it is essential, I’d like to first expound on why I do not like to admit it. Technology, specifically computer access, makes most assignments given in any class seem at least a minimal amount easier but in more than one way. Students tend to become far more lazy when they rely solely, or even heavily, on technology for the completion of their educational work. For example, plagiarism alone has become a frequent issue in schools due to the easily accessible “cut and paste” feature of the computer. In addition, it is far easier to mindlessly type than to mindlessly write; in that I mean that more information will be memorized or learned when written as compared to typed. All it requires to type is to place the keys in muscle memory and press down. It takes more effort to form every word manually when handwriting- therefore it sticks out further into the memory. Do I even have to mention that keeping a student’s eyes glued to a computer screen is unhealthy?
All of that aside, the use of technology in a modern classroom is unavoidable if the teacher plans on instructing the students on a current time frame. The more basic forms of technology, the bare minimum, which an instructor should take advantage of are the following: E-mail used for quick communication with the students and the ability to retrieve the information later for reference if stored on a computer, overhead projectors (or Smart Boards) so that students may view as a whole the lessons the teacher has in a visual format, and if it is an information-intensive lecture class the students should be required or supplied hand-held recorders that they may record the lecture for later use. Those, of course, are only bare minimums for an effective modern classroom. If the teacher wants to use technology further, other equipment that should be utilized is: Travel flash drives that students may save their work done on a computer for later reference and use, a computer lab complete with scanners and printers that students have a computer to use the flash drives on, institutional network systems (such as PAL for PCC or PORTAL for FSC) for announcements, storage, coursework, handouts, etc, Electronic portfolios used for students in their majors to present more effectively and sanitarily to potential graduate schools or professionals, and much more that only seems to grow on the list.
Through all that I mentioned, I would only use a select amount of technology in my own course titled The Study of Film Music (beta). As a course looking into the music of films, it goes without saying that I will require a television and CD player- or better yet, a computer combining it all together. I would require internet access for the retrieval of audio and video files as well as the ability to send announcements to students via e-mail. Due to the course being a more in-depth look into a subject, I would not require students to have personal laptops in class with them; however, they will need a computer access at certain points outside of class for projects that should be typed professionally (perhaps travel drives would be a smart but optional addition that they may work on their assignments in more than one location). If I were to use a classroom computer instead of a classroom television for the film portion of the course, I would require a projector screen or Smart Board that the students may see the lesson. Besides the common teacher lounge scanner/printer/fax machine for handouts and tests, the technology I mentioned is basically all that would be required in a current version of my classroom. I would rather keep the amount utilized to a moderate minimum rather than overuse in the light that if we as a society rely too heavily on technology (especially to make our lives “easier”), we could become very lazy- and weak if that technology happens to fail. Technology in education should be used as a supplement that teaches students how to develop skills that are relevant to today’s standards that they may embrace it, change it, and improve what is already given to them.
7.Technology Integration is when a student or a teacher incorporates technology into a classroom setting.
Students can use it for papers and whatnot, and teachers can use it to make the education process new and fresh.
8. I learned from EDU 230 a lot of things. I learned how to make a unit showcase, how to fill out a unit plan template, and how to make a digital storyboard.
9.The Unit Plan Template. The difficult legalistic wording of and obscure required resources were a bit much for one who was not experience with that type of project.
10. I will use Technology like a fine artist uses chiaroscuro. I will make it a necessary and vital part of my lessons but not the main focal point. I will utilize as many technological resources as my school will allow, however I will still rely on good old fashioned lecturing and quizzes.
7. Technology integration is when a teacher uses technology to get the content across to their students. In the end, the student is not only learning that subject area in a fun, but they are also learning how to use, create and explore ideas using technology.
8. I have learned how entertaining and annoying that technology can be. I think technology is the easiest way for a child to learn something because it is entertaining for them, but technology can be a pain because it has a mind of its own.
9. The movie maker project was fine for me, it was more time consuming than challenging.
10. I will use technology in my classroom for music theory and ear training.
7. Technology integration is when the teacher implements technology into the class to enhance the students learning experience.
8. I learned that technology is very useful in the classroom. Their are so many things that you can do with technology which enhance the learning experience. I also learned how to use software such as Microsoft publisher and windows movie maker.
9.The hardest part of edu 230 was the unit template. This assignment was extremely changeling because of all the work that had to put in to it. It also was hard because it made you think as if you were already teaching.
10. I will use technology in my classroom through computer centers, powerPoint for the students. Blogs, wikis, smartboard, and safe internet sites. Technology and learning will come together to help students with any subject.
#7 Technology integration is when the teacher introduces and incorporates technology into their classrooms, allowing students access to programs and equipment ranging from smart boards to computers. Another example would be to have the students do a power point project or make a movie with windows movie maker. (Hopefully) it flows well with the intended curriculum and in "incorporated" rather than replacing valuable time for the intended material.
#8 Most of the topics and projects we did in this class, I was already at least familiar with, so in that respect, I already knew the programs. What I did learn that was exceptionally valuable from this class was the extent that you can use it in a classroom. Even music. It expands a lot more possibilities that I can have with my future students that before were not even considered. I'm personally really excited about these new possibilities.
#9 The assignments themselves haven't been incredibly taxing. Event wise, while not directly related to the class, all of my online accounts were hacked last week including my blog account and email so it made a mess of everything. I'm finally starting to make new accounts and make my way around it all while trying not to over-stress. Backing up your work is a very important thing. I hear it said all the time. Maybe now I'll believe them.
#10 I will most definitely consider modifications of the projects we did as examples in class for future projects for my students. I wont know for sure how far I can stretch technology into the limited time I might have with my students, but if the equipment is there and it fits with my curriculum, by all means, why not? It is a great and valuable experience especially with how the world is adapting today where technology is such a staple of our society.
7.Technology Integration is the use of technology in the classroom by both the teacher and students to facilitate learning. It is important in society today that we integrate technology in the classroom to prepare our students for when they leave.
8. I learned a great deal about technology in EDU230. The SmartBoard is a great teaching tool and my favorite project of the semester. I hope to have one in my classroom and plan on using it everyday. I alson learned about Windows Movie Maker and Audacity. Learning how to create podcasts and movies to use for presentations was another highlight for me in this class.
9. The Unit Plan Templat was the most challenging this semester. It involved a lot of research and I have been working on it since the very beginnning of the semester.
10. I envision using a SmartBoard regularly for presentations and projects, as well as using Movie Maker and Audacity to take the place of PowerPoint presentations in some cases. I want to be able to reach as many students as possible with my teaching and technology increases my chances of reaching my students greatly.
Blog #7-10
#7 Technology integration is the effective use of technology in classrooms by teachers and students. Teachers use technology to support instruction, which in turn actively engages the students in their learning.
#8 I have learned a lot about technology in EDU 230. At the beginning of the semester, I was very skeptical about this class. I had no idea how any of this technology would be relevant to me as a music educator. This was primarily because in all of the music classes I have taken, these types of technology were not utilized and it made it difficult for me to see how they could be used. Through this course, I have became more acquainted with technology tools and have seen the possibilities for integrating technology in the classroom. I have also learned that you must always have a back-up plan when working with technology and must save your work in more than one place because technology is not as dependable as I once thought.
#9 The most challenging technology assignment was definitely the movie maker project. I was forced to start over several times. It was also difficult to adjust the volume levels of the music so the narration could be heard. The unit plan has also been difficult. I have never had to plan a unit and have only planned individual lessons. Also, I am planning to teach middle school band, and most band directors do not plan units like this. Therefore, it has been difficult for me to think about the big picture of a unit.
#10 I am definitely much more open to the idea of technology in my classroom and more confident that I will actually be able to integrate and use it. If you have the resources in your classroom, the possibilities are endless. I plan to use technology to communicate with my parents and students. If I have access to a Smart Board, I will use it to create interactive and engaging lessons. Powerpoint presentations are great as well. I will also utilize great music software like Practica Musica, Smart Music, and Finale.
